JANKA chunky winter beanie – when does it work best?
JANKA is a classic turn-up beanie, hand-knitted from a single thick strand of wool. The chunky knit and single rib create a bold, textured beanie that works well as a warm winter hat for everyday use, walks, and city winter wear. The “Ink Blots” colourway has a light base (white/ecru) with darker bluish flecks visible in the yarn structure – the effect is understated, but not completely uniform.
- Chunky wool beanie – the thick knit and folded brim help retain warmth, making it a good warm winter hat for women or men.
- Stretchy ribbed knit – the beanie adjusts to the shape of the head and stays in place, while the turn-up lets you choose how far it covers the forehead and ears.
- Beanie with a slight natural halo – the knit surface is mostly smooth, with a light fuzz typical of wool, which visually highlights its thickness and handmade character.
- Against the skin – this version of sheep’s wool may feel itchy on very sensitive skin; if you have strong sensory sensitivity, it may be worth wearing it with a thin headband or choosing a gentler wool.
- Hand-knitted – each chunky yarn beanie is an individual piece, and the knit itself is substantial and simple, without decorative textures, so it is easy to pair with everyday winter clothing.
- Eco-leather label – it can be unclipped for washing or if you prefer a completely plain wool beanie without extras.
- Oeko-Tex® Standard 100 certified wool – the yarn has been tested for harmful substances, which may matter if you pay attention to material safety.
How to care for your wool beanie?
Like most chunky wool hats, JANKA does best with infrequent but careful washing. Hand washing in cool water is recommended, using a gentle wool detergent and no fabric softener. After washing, gently press out excess water in a towel and dry flat, reshaping the beanie as it dries – this helps maintain the elasticity of the knit and reduce felting.
